A man reportedly threatened to his parents and police, resulting in a police shooting Sunday afternoon near Valley View Blvd and Cactus Avenue.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said dispatch received an unknown trouble call at 1:28 p.m. During the call, police said no one spoke but a man could be heard in the background making threats.
Enterprise area command officer Andre Mitre and her partner arrived to the scene and knocked on the front door. Police said an elderly man walked out and informed the officers his wife was still inside with her son. 38-year-old Cory Iturribarria, who lived with them.
“The elderly male expressed to the officers his concern about Mr. Itturbarria’s mental state and he informed officers that he was armed with a shotgun and a handgun,” said assistant Sheriff Chris Jones.
The elderly man also told police that Iturribarra also threatened to him, his wife and police if they arrived to the scene.
Police said Mitre could see through the screen door and began issuing commands to Iturribarria.
During this time, police said Iturrbarria opened the screen door and stepped out holding the shotgun in and the pistol in his hands. As he did this, he raised those firearms toward officer Mitre.
Police said that’s when officer Mitre fired five rounds striking Iturribarria multiple times.
Iturriburria was taken into custody and transported to the hospital. Police said he was in serious but stable condition.
