A 54-year-old woman was knocked to the floor Wednesday and suffered a leg fracture inside a Hackensack Staples store after asking a customer to wear a mask, authorities said.
The victim told police she was using a copy machine at the Hackensack Avenue location when she asked another customer to wear her mask.
The suspect “approached to use a nearby machine with her own face mask pulled below her mouth,” said Captain Darrin DeWitt, a detective with the Hackensack Police Department.
“The victim, who said she had liver transplant surgery four months ago, told the suspect to put her mask on,” DeWitt said in a statement.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center with a fractured bone in her left leg, police said.
Police said the suspect was black, about 160 pounds, and 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall.
