The King of Jordan has intervened after a mob filmed themselves hacking a 16-year-old boy's hands off and gouging out his eyes in an act of revenge for a murder allegedly carried out by his father.
A Jordanian special police taskforce has now arrested 11 people involved in the mutilation of the boy in Zarqa, a city 20 miles northeast of Amman.
Ten men kidnapped the victim, a boy named Saleh, on Tuesday before driving him in a minibus to a remote location, where they chopped off his hands and gouged out his eyeballs with sharp objects.
Local media, citing the testimony of an eyewitness, reported that the mutilation was a revenge attack for the murder of one of the suspects' uncle. The men believed the victim's father was the perpetrator.
The video went viral on social media in Jordan but due to its horrific nature, Jordanian authorities swiftly ordered that its circulation be banned.
