Multiple gunmen opened fire at six locations in central Vienna on Monday evening, killing at least three and wounding several others. About 50 shots were fired, according to witnesses.
The shooting happened on Schwedenplatz, a square located opposite the Carmelite Quarter, where several synagogues are located, but the attack did not involve the Jewish institutions, the president of the city’s communal organization said.
The police started investigating the matter as a terror attack and the Interior Minister Nehammer, too, announced the local public radio that "It appears to have been a terror attack."
As of now, 15 people, including a police officer, have been hospitalized, with seven suffering serious injuries, reported the Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig.
