Marshall County District 1 Election Commissioner Sheri McClatchy is fighting to keep her seat on the commission but will have to appear in court soon for another fight.
McClatchy and Pearlie Howell, who was campaigning for McClatchy’s opponent Jamarr "Jack" Walton, each face simple assault charges after the women were involved in a verbal altercation that ended in a fist fight Tuesday morning at a polling precinct in Holly Springs.
The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday when the women were trying to do some last-minute campaigning.
Rob Shabazz, a rap artist from Holly Springs who had been campaigning for McClatchy for the last couple of weeks, was at the precinct to help McClatchy when the fight broke out.
"I was surprised about the whole incident," he said. "I don't understand why all that happened. (McClatchy) was just asking the woman a question."
