Videos spreading across social media Tuesday afternoon showed an Osceola deputy body slamming a Liberty High School student to the ground, knocking her head onto the sidewalk and appearing to cause her to lose consciousness.
Footage filmed by students show the officer throwing the student to the ground in an outside breezeway at the school. The student’s head hit the pavement with an audible thump and she went limp.
The deputy then straddled the student and pulled her arms behind her back to place her in handcuffs as another deputy approached. The student remained motionless on the ground as she was handcuffed and did not appear to regain consciousness during the encounter.
“What the [expletive] is wrong with you?!” a nearby student yelled at the deputy.
In a statement released Tuesday evening, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deputy was employed by the agency as a school resource officer at Liberty High School in Kissimmee.
Agency spokeswoman Nirva Rodriguez said the officer was “in the process of trying to stop the student from fighting another student in the hallway when the deputy took her into custody.”
