OGDEN, Utah — A man was shot and killed by Ogden Police officers Friday night.
Police received a report of an aggravated robbery, sexual assault and vehicle theft just after 7 p.m. This incident took place on the 100 block of 26th Street.
The suspect who was shot and killed by police was later identified as 28-year-old Dino Raul Morales.
“The suspect took the victim’s vehicle and fled the area when the assault was completed,” Ogden Police Chief Eric Young said Sunday morning in a press conference.
Investigators believe Morales then offered a ride to another woman. She was in the car when he was first confronted by officers near 30th and Washington.
“She accepted and ended up in the wrong car at the wrong time,” Young said.
The woman was able to escape the car unharmed. Morales ran into the garage of a nearby home.
“The officers located footsteps in the backyard of a house in the snow of the 2900 block of Grant Avenue and followed the footsteps to a shed behind the house where a truck was parked,” Young said.
Officers found Morales hiding in the bed of the truck inside the garage. Investigators say he stood up and pointed a gun before being shot by two Ogden police officers.
“The suspect refused to comply with commands from the officers,” Young said.
An officer-involved critical incident team is conducting an independent investigation alongside an internal investigation by the Ogden Police Department.
