A Vancouver woman is warning other women to be careful after she was followed by a stranger who tailed her for 30 minutes down several city blocks.
Jamie Coutts said she was walking home after visiting a store on Granville and Dunsmuir streets Wednesday afternoon when she felt someone walk too close behind her.
When she stepped off the sidewalk to let him pass, he stopped and stared at her, she recounted in a widely shared social media post. When she told him he’s walking too close to her, he ignored her and continued to follow her.
After walking in circles deliberately to make sure he was intentionally following her, Coutts took out her phone and began filming.
The seven-minute clip she posted on social media showed Coutts walking down East Georgia, Main and Keefer streets with the man — wearing a hooded black jacket, baseball cap and face mask — keeping pace behind her the whole way.
Coutts approached a group of people at the skate park for protection. The man stood nearby for a while before he left.
The Vancouver police said it’s investigating after Coutts reported the incident to them Wednesday night.
Coutts said she has been contacted by other women who had similar run-ins with the same man. Police urged those women to contact them and file a police report.
