POWHATAN, Va. — A deer crashed through the windshield of a Virginia school bus Thursday morning and landed on a student in the front row who was sleeping, WTVR reported.
The incident was captured on the Powhatan County school bus’ surveillance video, the television station reported.
According to Powhatan County Public Schools, the deer crashed through the windshield at 6:07 a.m. EDT. The bus driver was driving when the animal crashed through the right front windshield of the vehicle, WTVR reported.
The deer thrashed around in the front row of the bus before regaining its balance, according to the video. The deer ran toward the front door, and the driver had the presence of mind to slow down the bus and allow the animal to scamper out, WTVR reported.
The deer ran away to a nearby field and appeared to be unharmed, the television station reported. The student who was sleeping in the front row of the bus also was not hurt, school officials said.
