Indianapolis police say a "resisting shoplifter" pointed a gun at a security guard inside a Beech Grove Walmart on Saturday, causing another shopper to fire shots at him in a chaotic scene.
The suspect was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. A loss prevention officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer Samone Burris said officers heard reports of a shoplifter resisting security at the Walmart off South Emerson Avenue around 4 p.m.
En route to the Walmart, officers learned that shots were fired inside. Burris said that another shopper fired after the suspected shoplifter pulled his own gun, but did not hit him.
The man ran out into the parking lot, Burris said, and another person stopped him from getting away.
Burris said the man has unrelated warrants, but charges in the incident will be up to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
