OKLAHOMA CITY - A man convicted of several charges was released from the Oklahoma County jail in April instead of being transferred to a state prison.
A jail spokesperson said the inmate was accidentally released two months ago after pleading guilty to several charges including drug trafficking.
Right now, jail officials said the release appears to be a human error.
The inmate, Reimundo Cuevas, pleaded guilty to six counts of trafficking methamphetamine along with other charges.
He was sentenced to 25 years in prison, but instead of being transferred to a state facility, he was released.
An arrest warrant for him was issued on Friday. Cuevas reportedly turned himself in on Sunday afternoon.
This is the latest controversy at the Oklahoma County Detention Center since the jail trust took control from the sheriff's office in July 2020.
Since then, at least 10 inmates have died in custody including one who was shot and killed by a police officer after taking a corrections officer hostage.
Three inmates have escaped.
