MILWAUKEE (UPDATE) ---- Three people are injured after shootings during Tuesday night's NBA Finals celebrations.
"A lot of fans were celebrating, horns honking and fireworks also so it was tough to determine fireworks and gunshots," said Laron Burnett, who was celebrating in the area.
According to police, a 19-year-old Milwaukee woman was injured in a shooting near N. Water St. and W. Juneau St. around 12:40 a.m. Police say it does not appear that the woman was the intended target. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. An 18-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested in connection to this incident.
Around the same time, a 22-year-old man was dropped off at local hospital for a shooting that took place near N. Water St. and W. Knapp St. Police say a second victim, a 32-year-old Milwaukee man, was also shot in this incident. Both victims sustained non-life threatening injuries. A 25-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested.
CBS 58 talked with two fans who were celebrating on Water last night but say they left before the shootings.
They say this is not the way fans expected to end their nights, nor the news they wanted to hear this morning.
"It's just sad that that happened. As a city we've just got to be a little bit better. Nothing like that should be happening. We're all here for the same reasons," said fan David Rosengarten.
"I've been coming down on Water Street, Brady Street for a number of years and that was totally surprising. Totally caught off guard, and more so surprising because the city's in a good mood and we just won a championship," said fan Laron Burnett.
Mayor Tom Barrett praised police response to the shooting.
"Police had it under control right away and the police put a lot of work into this and they had a lot of partnerships with other police departments, State Patrol," Mayor Barrett said.
