A man has been caught on camera headbutting police at Tweed Heads, as the issues at NSW and Queensland’s border, triggered by the Delta outbreak, continue.
Footage posted to Facebook showed the man sitting on the grass with a woman when he was approached by a group of police officers on Sunday.
The couple was sitting near the State Border Monument, drinking from paper cups, when they were approached.
The police officers question why the pair are sitting and drinking, which is a breach of NSW’s coronavirus rules.
“There are public health orders in place,” one officer said. “You're required to be wearing masks”.
The couple is asked to stand up but they appear to ignore the request from the police.
“We don't have anything to say here,” the woman tells the group of officers.
After the couple refuse to stand, one police officer motions for his colleagues to pick them up off the ground.
“You‘re not coming? Alright,” he said, before waving the police over.
While the woman waves the police off, motioning she will stand up herself, the man fights being lifted, attempting to lay his body flat.
Eventually, the group of police officers are able to lift him and start to walk him away from the monument.
However the filmer then captured the man headbutting one of the police officers, before again attempting to free himself from police’s grip.
More police officers rush over to assist, pinning the man to the ground and handcuffing him.
