Las Vegas police fatally shot a man Tuesday after he kidnapped an ex-girlfriend and pointed a gun at officers, police said.
The officers responded to reports of shots fired east of North Las Vegas near East Lake Mead Boulevard at about 9 a.m. and learned the suspect had fled the area with the woman and a gun, Capt. Carlos Hank said.
They located them about two hours later at a shopping complex a few miles away where the man was holding the woman hostage.
“The officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and get the suspect to release the female,” Hank told reporters. “Ultimately, the suspect pointed his firearm at officers and officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect.”
No one else was injured.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Hank said. His name has not been released.
The officer-involved shooting is under investigation, Hank said.
