A man has been hospitalized with serious injuries including a fractured skull following an axe attack in a Midlands supermarket.
The targeted and violent assault happened in the Tesco store in Tullamore at around 8.30pm last night.
Two men wearing masks and armed with an axe entered the store and attacked a man, aged in his 30s, in front of horrified shoppers.
The victim was struck a number of times in the head and body during the vicious assault before the suspects fled the scene.
They escaped in a dark-coloured vehicle that sped away from the store and has not yet been located.
Emergency services were alerted and the injured man was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore for treatment.
He remains in a serious condition after suffering multiple injuries including a suspected fractured skull and a dislocated shoulder.
These injuries have been described as non-life-threatening.
