For decades we have assumed our technological advancements have been far more advanced than our ancestors. This all changed when a device found 120 years ago was researched with some of our modern technology that allows us to see inside of the coroded metal object.
It appears as if thousands of years ago the Greeks were already building fairly complex computer devices that could track our planet and surrounding planets phases perfectly.
The device has been named The Antikythera Mechanism, using 3D technology we're able to finally see after a century just what the device was once capable of since the device itself is in 80 different fragments.
In March 2021, a paper published in Scientific Reports revealed a new display of the gearing system that showed its fine details and complex parts.
"The Sun, Moon and planets are displayed in an impressive tour de force of ancient Greek brilliance," the paper's lead author, Professor Tony Freeth, said.
"Ours is the first model that conforms to all the physical evidence and matches the descriptions in the scientific inscriptions engraved on the mechanism itself," he added.
