A middle school student in Elgin, Illinois, was reportedly locked in a room at school for not wearing his mask. In the video, a child can be heard trying to get out of a room, and a masked adult can be seen through the window keeping the door closed.
"It is the law by Governor Pritzker to let me out of this room. You can't lock me in a room. You can't lock me in here," he says, trying to push the door open. "Please let me out." The video was posted by Twitter account Libs of Tik Tok.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzer did announce a plan to withdraw indoor mask mandates, but not for students. This has been the plan for many governors who implemented mask mandates, and now are removing them for adults only. This despite the fact that adults are at far greater risk of COVID-19 complications and deaths than children.
