HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A suspected peeping Tom who pulled a knife on a group of Waikiki beachgoers remained behind bars Thursday afternoon.
Police used a Taser on David Harris at Kuhio Beach after they say he refused to drop the weapon.
Cell phone video, captured by a witness, showed Harris waving a knife as he staggered along the sidewalk on Kalakaua Avenue near the Duke Kahanamoku statue about 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Moments before, the 62-year-old had allegedly startled a woman when he stood next to her as she changed into dry clothes between the doors of a car.
Witnesses say Harris was touching himself. That’s when a scuffle broke out.
“You going to do something crazy, crazy stuff is going to happen to you,” said witness Kekoa Carvalho.
Aleeyah Lono added, “Multiple people confronted him about it. And then they chased him down over here. And he was just holding his knife out.”
Bystanders warned others to stay back until police arrived.
Officers used a Taser on Harris when they say he refused to drop the knife.
As the suspect went down, witnesses say a bottle of alcohol fell from his pants.
