Syracuse, N.Y. — A Syracuse man went on a vandalism spree, smashing 45 car windows and damaging businesses as well as a police car and a door in the jail on Sunday, police said.
Syracuse police said it all started shortly after noon Sunday when William Kaulback, 32, stole some items from Joe’s Quick Mart at 758 Erie Blvd. West.
Kaulback ran from police, but they arrested him, charging him with theft, police said. He also was wanted on a warrant from Manlius police.
While arresting Kaulback, he kicked a police car, damaging it, police said. He was taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center where he damaged an interior door, police said.
After being arraigned, Kaulback was released, police said.
He went to the 300 block of Hartson Street where he smashed the windshield of his sister’s car with a car jack and fled, police said.
After 10:30 p.m. Kaulback continued his ‘smashing’ spree by breaking windows and damaging six businesses, police said.
His final stop was Millenium Auto Brokers at 500 E. Hiawatha Blvd where he smashed two windows and 45 car windshields, police said. The damage was estimated to be around $14,000, police said.
Two officers spotted Kaulback and he ran from them, police said. They chased him and arrested him, police said. He was charged with numerous counts of second and third-degree criminal mischief, police said.
Kaulbeck was taken back to the Justice Center where he is being held.
