An 8-year-old girl was shot Tuesday in Prince William County and is now in critical condition at a trauma center, police said.
Officers were called to shooting,the 15300 block of Gatehouse Terrace in Woodbridge, Virginia, at around 6:45 p.m. for reports of a shooting. On scene they found a young girl suffering from a gunshot wound, Prince William County police said.
Prince William County police Chief Pete Newsham said the victim was flown to a trauma center and is currently in surgery, in critical “but hopefully stable” condition.
Authorities believe the victim was outside on the block, playing with friends, when a group of four young men fired at a car and the girl was struck.
Police are speaking with the driver, who they said was the intended target of the shooting. They are also looking for multiple suspects seen by witnesses fleeing the block after the gunfire and examining any home doorbell cameras for pictures and video.
No arrests have been made and officers have not recovered a gun.
