Drugs and guns were found after two people stole a dump trailer in Palm Coast

Two Daytona Beach residents were arrested after Deputy Sheriffs found them with drugs and guns while driving around Palm Coast pulling a stolen dump trailer.

26-year-old Corey Rashad Moore and 26-year-old Shayne Chyenne Wise face various felony charges following their arrest Wednesday (December 14, 2022) during a high-risk traffic stop on Pine Lakes Parkway near Wellington Drive.

Just before 11:30 a.m., a Deputy spotted Moore driving a red Ford F-250 heading northbound on Belle Terre Parkway pulling a black trailer. A check of the tag determined the trailer had been reported stolen two days earlier by its owner, according to Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly.

“Once all the occupants in the vehicle were detained, our Deputies found two loaded guns in the vehicle along with a strong marijuana odor,” Sheriff Staly added. “It turns out they had the marijuana hidden in their pants, and it was discovered while they were being processed at the Green Roof Inn. Another great job by our deputies, and we quickly returned the trailer to its owner.”

A third person found inside the vehicle was released from the scene with no charges.

The owner reported the trailer stolen after Wise had rented the trailer from a Bunnell resident for a three-day period and failed to return it on Monday, December 12, 2022 and could not be contacted. When questioned about the trailer, Moore claimed one of the trailer’s tires blew out, and they had to get it repaired before returning it, but they couldn’t get in contact with the owner to inform him. Wise then claimed he did contact the owner and made a verbal agreement with him to keep the trailer for a few more days, but that the owner was “drunk at the time and probably won’t remember” making that agreement.

One of the firearms – a Taurus 9-millimeter – was found within reach of Wise under the seat where he was sitting in the truck, while the other – a Keltec 9-millimeter – was found in a zippered backpack on a rear seat. Deputies determined that the backpack belonged to Moore.

Upon being booked, Detention Deputies found four grams of marijuana in Wise’s pants and two grams of marijuana in Moore’s pants. Deputies also found a glass pipe on hidden on Wise’s person during the booking process.

Since their booking at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, Moore was released after posting $8,500 on five charges, including felony charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, evidence tampering and introducing contraband into a prison facility. Wise also was released from the Green Roof Inn after posting $11,000 bond on six charges, including felony charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, evidence tampering, introducing contraband into a prison facility and carrying a concealed firearm without a permit.

This is the first time both men have been arrested in Flagler County.
