Black privilege was on full display as fellow school board members in Jackson came out to defend Trustee Kesha Hamilton, while others called for her resignation for social media remarks she made describing “whiteness” as evil.
Some during the nearly two hours of public comment at the Jan. 17 meeting called Hamilton’s social media comments “appalling” and “disgraceful,” while others called Hamilton an “agent of change” who holds the district accountable.
At issue were comments Hamilton tweeted on Dec. 18, saying, “Whiteness is so evil. it manipulates then says, I won’t apologize for my dishonesty and trauma inducing practices and thinks you should applaud it for being honest about its ability to manipulate and be dishonest.”
On Tuesday, supporters of Hamilton, like Myeshia Jones, said her comments about “whiteness” were addressing issues of systemic racism and were not hateful remarks targeting white individuals.
“Whiteness is the system, the ideology, the belief, the thought that because your skin is white, you are superior to Black people,” Jones said. “Because your skin is white you deserve better. Because your skin is white, you have better opportunities.”
Of course, this is utter bullshit since Hamilton could have simply written that the system is evil but she pointed out race specifically.
