On September 6, 2021, the city of Queens, New York, was rocked by a deadly shooting that left one man dead and the community in shock. Now, nearly six months later, law enforcement officials have announced that they have apprehended the suspect responsible for the heinous crime.
According to police, 52-year-old Ron Reeder was taken into custody last month in New Jersey and extradited to New York to face charges of murder and weapons possession in connection with the shooting. The victim, 46-year-old Jermaine Dixon, was shot and killed at close range on South Conduit Avenue near 132nd Street in South Ozone Park. The suspect, who was disguised in Hasidic-style clothing, allegedly attempted to steal $10,000 from Dixon's pocket before fleeing the scene without the cash.
Law enforcement sources have revealed that Reeder and another individual had been waiting for Dixon for several hours before the ambush. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
The arrest of Reeder comes after a lengthy investigation by the NYPD and other law enforcement agencies. On February 23, Reeder was arrested at his apartment on Teaneck Road by the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and the NYPD. In addition to the murder and weapons charges related to the Queens shooting, he is also facing charges of drug possession, identity theft, and financial crimes in a separate criminal case in New Jersey.
