Three Brooklyn men have been arrested and charged following a theft incident at a Target store in Westbury, New York, on Sunday, in which a police officer was dragged along from the side of a car. The men allegedly stole two infant car seats from the store, which they attempted to return without a purchase. When their returns were denied, the men left the store with the stolen merchandise.
The suspects entered the back seat of a parked Tesla with the stolen car seats, prompting store security to notify the police of the theft. When officers approached the Tesla, the driver, Malique Wilson, attempted to flee, and in the process, dragged an officer along from the passenger door. Wilson then rammed three cars, including a police vehicle, causing substantial damage and endangering the public and the police.
Wilson was later found hiding in the back of a dump truck and was arrested without further incident. He has been charged with a range of offenses, including criminal possession of stolen property, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an incident with property damage, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and attempted assault of a police officer. Wilson was also found to have an open warrant with the NYPD for criminal possession of a weapon.
Jiles-Ais, a passenger in the back seat, was found to be in possession of three fraudulent driver's licenses and has been charged with petit larceny and three counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument. Stephenson, who fled from police on foot prior to the collision, was later found hiding in a nearby parking lot and has been charged with petty larceny and resisting arrest.
