India-Jailed gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were shot dead in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday night while they were being taken for a medical test. Following the incident, the state government has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC across all districts and CM Yogi Adityanath has set up a probe committee to investigate the matter.
Atiq Ahmed was seen in television footage talking to reporters when at least two men with pistols opened fire on them. Soon after, three people surrendered before the police. This comes barely days after his son, 19-year-old Asad Ahmed, was killed in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force. Asad Ahmed was laid to rest earlier on Saturday.
