Police have fatally shot a woman who allegedly assaulted at least four people with a metal pipe in Tarzana early Sunday morning.
The scene unfolded at around 8:30 a.m. near Reseda Boulevard and Hatteras Street, where officers were dispatched after receiving several calls regarding assaults in the area.
According to Los Angeles Police Department, officers arriving at the scene encountered the woman a short distance away, near a gas station parking lot located at Reseda and Burbank Boulevards.
Police say that they "deployed a taser" and a "40 mm foam baton round" before the shooting occurred.
The suspect, who has been identified as 35-year-old Jessica Brown, was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
It remains unclear how many officers opened fire. None were injured in the incident.
All of the victims sustained serious head and face injuries in the attacks, according to LAPD investigators. Two remained hospitalized, but are said to be in stable condition.
"Additional investigation has revealed that the female is a suspect in similar incidents that occurred yesterday, resulting in four victims," said a statement from LAPD. "A mother and child were in a parked vehicle when the suspect smashed the windows. Two males were also struck with a similarly described weapon yesterday, one in the head causing a cut, and the other in the arm."
The area of Reseda Boulevard from Hatteras Street to Burbank Boulevard was impacted for several hours while authorities investigated.
