A man who police say intentionally shot and killed a 9-year-old girl in Portage Park on Saturday has been charged with first-degree murder.
Michael Goodman, 43, walked up to a group of people on the sidewalk across from his home in the 3500 block of North Long Avenue at about 9:40 p.m. and shot Serabi Medina in the head, police say.
They say Serabi’s father tackled the man, and the gun went off during the struggle.
Serabi was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital a short time later, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Her cause of death was a gunshot wound to her head, and the manner of death was classified as a homicide, autopsy results showed.
Megan Kelley, a family friend said this is the second time in five years the family has lost someone to violence. Serabi’s mother was shot to death in 2018.
