A man used a katana, a traditional sword used by samurai in Japan, to chase a group of suspects who were trying to steal bicycles from the garage of a condominium in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.
Alisson D'jean, who became known by the nickname “Samurai de BH”, went viral when images of the scene hit social media on Friday (25). The robbery attempt, however, took place on August 13.
When checking the security cameras, he found that the building was being invaded. The samurai put on some clothes, took the katana and ran to the elevator, where he found the manager.
“I took this samurai sword, a handmade katana, a weapon of war, really, because I didn't know what I was going to face, I didn't know how many, I didn't know the type of weapon they would be carrying”, reports the physiotherapist, who claims to have started using this type of sword almost 30 years ago.
He says he just didn't reach the suspects because the superintendent pressed a wrong button and made them stop somewhere else before reaching the garage.
“Ten seconds before, which is how long it took, the garage door was closed. I would have met these two inside the gate and the worst, or the possible worst, could have happened on one side or the other”, he explained in his Instagram stories.
The “samurai”, who is a physiotherapist, reported the experience in the stories on his Instagram profile and said that he decided to act on his own since the Military Police, according to him, “washed their hands” after three invasions of the condominium.
