It's a system of demoralization. Begins with demonizing a group, demoralizing them, then incrementally ratcheting up to the point of genocide.

You would think that many people could have easily overwhelmed the few that were gassing them. I guess nobody in that group was willing to be the tip of the spear and sacrifice themselves to maybe save themselves and many others. Instead, they ended with a whimper and weakened their souls in the process. As for the ones gassing them, they will eventually make their way to the gates of hell and it wont be virgins waiting for them.
