Video released by the Shelby County District Attorney's Office showed what happened during a police chase that turned deadly.
According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), officers found a stolen car in the Westwood area around noon on December 9, 2022. Latoris Taylor, 40, was one of three men who took off running from that car, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy said that Taylor fired two shots at a Memphis Police officer who was chasing him that day.
Video of the deadly encounter, released by Mulroy's office on October 17, 2023, shows that officer running after Taylor.
The officer then draws his gun and fires several shots. At the end of the gunfire, Taylor can be seen falling down in a driveway.
Seconds later, other officers arrive at the scene and the officer calls in "shots fired" to dispatch.
"Suspect down", the officer can be heard saying.
Security camera on the other side of the street shows Taylor running down the sidewalk. Taylor can be seen turning around towards the officer as he runs.
He turns back around and continues running before he is apparently hit by a bullet and falls to the ground.
Mulroy said that Taylor died at the scene of that shooting.
The other two men who ran from the vehicle were taken into custody without incident.
