On a night marred by a crime in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sérgio Rodrigues da Costa Silva, also known as Sérgio Bomba, was murdered in a kiosk while sharing moments with his girlfriend.
The shocking images captured by a security camera reveal the exact moment in which a man approaches with a gun in hand and, in less than 20 seconds, fires several shots at point-blank range, ending Sérgio's life instantly.
Sérgio Bomba, previously detained in 2017 in Operation Horus, had been appointed leader of the militia in Sepetiba. The militia under his command was dedicated to collecting taxes from residents and merchants, appropriating land and cloning stolen vehicles.
Violence was not alien to his life, since witnesses reported that he escaped an attack just a day before the fateful event.
The Specialized Group for Action and Combating Organized Crime (Gaeco) of the Public Ministry investigates Sérgio's participation in the Sepetiba militia. Rui Paulo Gonçalves Estevão, also known as Pipito, emerges as the main suspect behind the execution. Pipito, according to investigations, seeks to take control of the militia after the surrender of Luiz Antônio da Silva Braga, alias Zinho, in December.
Sérgio Bomba, who worked as a militiaman in Sepetiba for more than a decade, including his collaboration with the Braga family, joined Zinho's gang. However, the latest investigations suggest that he aspired to form his own militia in the region, which may have triggered the violent struggle for control of the territory.
