Video footage shows the horrifying moment a ferry passenger who leaped onto shore as his boat came in to dock had his leg crushed between the ramp and the land.
The horror unfolded on the banks of the Tapajós River - one of the Amazon’s major tributaries - in Miritituba, Brazil, on Saturday morning.
Local media has identified the victim as 27-year-old Luiz Henrique da Silva Pantoja, with reports that his left leg had to be amputated following the crush.
The shocking accident was captured on CCTV footage, which shows how the man jumped the gate separating the cars from the ramp as the boat approached the port.
He walks down the ramp in a bid to be the first off the boat, but before he can jump ashore, loses his balance and suddenly slips into the gap between the ferry and the shore.
