LANCASTER - Fairfield Area Humane Society Executive Director Corey Schoonover said two female cats a 13-year-old boy allegedly abused last week are doing better than one would think.
"They're in fairly good condition and are available for adoption," he said.
The cats names are Sidra and Annika.
City police and the humane society responded to a residence in the 1500 block of Courtship Drive Wednesday after receiving a complaint of the boy posting videos of him abusing two cats on social media. Schoonover said the video shows the boy slamming the cat's tails with a door.
Police said the boy and his 17-year-old sister did not answer the door at first.
The police finally entered, and after investigating said the sister tied her brother up with rope, duct-taped his mouth, then hit him in the head for retaliation for abusing the cats. Police said she put a video of that on social media.
Police arrested the sister and accused her of domestic violence. Fairfield County Juvenile and Probate Court Director Michael Orlando said the girl was charged and arraigned on a first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence charge and is housed at the Multi-County Juvenile Detention Center here.
Orlando said the boy has not been arrested or charged. He said that could be because police are still investigating.
Along with having the cats ready for adoption, the humane society is also seeking donations of money, cat food and supplies for the society's office to help care for Sidra and Annika and other animals there.
