A grand jury this week declined to indict a teenager accused of murdering a Humble convenience store clerk in January.
17-year-old Mario Young was accused of shooting and killing clerk Asif Maknojia after Young and another man allegedly stole a bag of chips from the convenience store in January. Police said Maknojia confronted the men outside of the store and followed them in his car when they began walking down the street. When the pair was getting ready to cross a street, Young shot and killed Maknojia inside his vehicle, prosecutors said.
Both men turned themselves in to the Houston Police Department three days after the incident, and Young was charged with Maknojia’s murder.
Activists claim that Mr. Young acted in self-defense since the clerk chased after them, asking for the stolen items back.
The 2nd teen was never even charged.
