Screams could be heard at a New York City park close to a courthouse where a high-profile trial was underway.
Those screams came from dozens of witnesses who saw a man set himself on fire Friday afternoon.
New York City police said Maxwell Azzarello tossed out pamphlets containing "conspiracy theories," then doused himself with an accelerant and set himself on fire. As the incident unfolded, many reporters were broadcasting live because the jury had just been selected.
Others rushed to the man's aid with coats and fire extinguishers during the time it took fire crews to arrive, according to New York City police.
