SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KMPH) — A man was viciously attacked on a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority platform. The security video showed the 45-year-old man being beaten for no reason.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office released the video of the unprovoked attack that happened on Wednesday at 1:12 p.m.
In the video, you can see the man approach the victim on the VTA platform and punch him in the face without warning.
Once the victim is on the ground, the suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Andrew Perez, continues to punch and kick him.
As the attack continues, Perez starts using an object in his hand to try to stab or cut the victim.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the V.T.A. Children’s Discovery Museum Station, for a report of an active assault that was taking place on the platform area.
When deputies arrived, they located the victim who was covered in blood from his head down to his torso area.
The suspect, Andrew Perez, who wearing an armored-plated vest, had already left the scene.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, which included an 8 to 10-inch laceration to his forehead that required 7 staples, a 4-inch laceration to his elbow, and a 1/2-inch laceration to his wrist.
Despite the seriousness of the attack, the victim is in stable condition.
San Jose police officers and sheriff’s deputies located Perez barricaded at his residence.
Perez was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of body armor during the commission of a felony, and interfering with safe transit operations.
