A Columbus man is in custody after being accused of following a woman into a bathroom at a home and holiday decorating store in Hilliard and attacking her, Hilliard police reported Wednesday on their Facebook page.
Police said a 60-year-old woman went inside of a bathroom Sept. 20 at the At Home store, 3599 Park Mill Run Dr. in Hilliard, just east of Interstate 270. Soon after, Mohamed Camara, 26, of the Easthaven neighborhood on Columbus' Southeast Side, is accused of entering the bathroom and attacking the woman, police said.
Court records say store cameras show the suspect followed the woman around the store. Police said that once in the bathroom, he attempted to strangle the woman and put his hand over her mouth, telling her to be quiet.
Police said the woman fought back and was able to alert her husband, who grabbed and restrained Camara while police were called. Camara was arrested on site.
Camara is facing a felony charge of kidnapping and may face additional charges, police said. He is in custody at the Franklin County jail and had his first court appearance on Saturday, according to court records.
He was ordered to be held on a $250,000 bond. He is next scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 30.
