Pernambuco, Brazil – Ride-hailing motorcyclist Thiago Fernandes Bezerra, 23, was killed after being shot by a military police officer on Sunday (1st). According to preliminary information, the argument occurred over the payment of a R$7 ride.
The incident was recorded by security cameras in the Alberto Maia neighborhood, in Camaragibe, in the Metropolitan Region of Recife. In the video, it is possible to see that the police officer refused to pay for the ride and the confusion began.
During the argument, Thiago questioned the police officer's actions, which resulted in the shooting. The police officer went into the condominium to change his shirt. Later, he was found on a bus, where he was attacked by locals and then rescued by the police.
In a statement, the Military Police reported that they seized a .38 caliber revolver from the officer. The case is being investigated by the 10th Homicide Division of Pernambuco, while the PMPE has initiated an internal administrative process, which may result in the officer's expulsion.
