What should have been a routine AirAsia flight from Nha Trang to Bangkok turned into a flying stress test after a Russian-speaking tourist caused chaos both in the air and on the ground, leaving passengers stunned and airport authorities scrambling.
According to witnesses, the man began acting erratically during the flight, running through the cabin, shouting at crew members, and repeatedly trying to provoke fights with other passengers. Flight attendants attempted to calm him down, but the situation escalated instead. At some point mid-flight, the tourist stripped down to his underwear, effectively turning the narrow airplane aisle into a stage for one of the most unhinged in-flight meltdowns imaginable.
Despite the disturbance, the aircraft landed safely in Bangkok. That, however, did not signal the end of the incident — only a brief pause.
After landing, while passengers were still seated and no jet bridge had been connected, the man reportedly opened the aircraft door on his own. He then jumped directly from the plane onto the tarmac, injuring his leg on impact. Ignoring the injury, he attempted to flee the scene before being quickly detained by airport authorities.
Officials confirmed that the man was taken into custody and treated for his injuries. He now faces a fine of up to $1,100 and could receive a prison sentence of up to one year for his actions.
Aviation experts note that opening an aircraft door without authorization and exiting the plane outside designated procedures is a serious safety violation, posing risks not only to the individual involved but also to the crew and passengers.
For everyone else on board, the flight ended as scheduled, though likely with a story that will outlive any souvenir from Bangkok.
