Dutch Woman Living In Egypt Goes Full Gangsta On A Local Beating A Donkey
35 days ago
A video filmed near Egypt’s famous pyramids just went wildly viral, and it has sparked a massive debate about animal welfare, tourism, and when stepping in is the right thing to do.
The clip shows a Dutch woman named Joke van der Post slapping an Egyptian man who was repeatedly whipping a donkey near the Giza pyramids. The moment is quick, shocking, and very real. But once people learned who van der Post is, the story got a lot more complicated.
Van der Post isn’t a tourist. She’s a long term resident of Egypt and runs a veterinary clinic dedicated to helping abused working animals, especially donkeys and horses used in the tourism industry. According to her own accounts, her clinic treats anywhere from 15 to 50 injured animals every single day.
These aren’t minor injuries either. Many of the animals she treats suffer from severe saddle sores, broken bones, infections, and exhaustion caused by being overloaded and worked for hours in the heat. Animal welfare advocates have been raising alarms about these practices in parts of North Africa for years, particularly in high traffic tourist areas.
After the confrontation, van der Post was briefly arrested by local authorities. Reports say she could face up to six to twelve months in prison or even deportation, depending on how the case unfolds.
