A night out in Oxfordshire took a scary turn after an e-scooter rider ended up in the hospital thanks to a pothole that locals say just will not quit.
The crash happened Saturday evening, just after 6pm, outside the Red Lion pub, when the rider hit the damaged patch of road and was thrown forward off the scooter. Witnesses say he landed face down in the street and was clearly hurt.
What makes it worse is that this was not some brand-new road hazard. According to people at the pub, the pothole had already been filled in twice before and somehow still managed to cause a serious accident.
Pub staff and customers immediately rushed outside when they heard what had happened. While someone called for an ambulance, others stepped in to help by redirecting traffic and keeping the injured rider as comfortable as possible. Several people said they avoided moving him because he complained of neck pain.
The ambulance reportedly took around 30 minutes to arrive, during which time the man briefly lost consciousness and was bleeding from his nose and mouth. He was taken to the hospital for treatment but was later discharged that same night.
Diana Berry, the pub’s landlady, described the moment everything unfolded. She said a woman ran inside shouting that someone had fallen in the pothole, prompting everyone to rush out. Berry added that the rider had gone straight over the scooter and onto his face, making the situation especially alarming to watch.
The incident has reignited frustration among locals in Oxfordshire, many of whom say potholes are becoming a danger rather than just an annoyance. And judging by this crash, it is clear that even a quick ride home can turn into a trip to the emergency room when roads are left in rough shape.
