A travel and health influencer is facing intense backlash after a video of her sharing a hotel habit went viral, leaving viewers questioning the cleanliness of in-room coffee makers.
In the clip, the influencer admits that when she runs out of clean underwear while traveling she puts her dirty underwear inside the hotel coffee maker presses brew and lets boiling water run through it to wash the underwear. She describes the method as brilliant saying she learned it from a flight attendant and claiming that tons of people already know this.
The internet however seemed largely unaware and deeply unsettled.
As the video spread across social media many viewers reacted with disbelief and disgust pointing out that hotel coffee makers are meant for beverages not for washing underwear. The realization quickly turned into a wider conversation about hotel hygiene and what those machines may have been used for before the current guest arrived.
Hotels typically clean rooms between stays but coffee makers are not usually taken apart and sanitized internally after every guest. That detail has fueled concern among travelers who previously thought little of brewing a complimentary cup of coffee in their room.
Comment sections filled with shocked responses with users saying they would no longer use hotel coffee makers and questioning how common the practice really is. Some said they would switch to lobby coffee while others vowed to bring their own kettles or avoid hotel coffee entirely.
Despite the backlash the influencer appeared unfazed standing by the practice and insisting it is more common than people think. Critics argued that even if the trick works using a coffee maker to wash underwear is something that did not need to be shared publicly.
The viral moment has left many travelers rethinking a routine part of hotel stays and asking an uncomfortable question.
How many cups of hotel coffee have you had without knowing what that machine was used for before you arrived?
