In Ohio, a wanted suspect thought he could outsmart police by pulling a move straight out of a cartoon, hiding inside a trash can after fleeing a traffic stop. What he did not account for was the presence of an alert sanitation worker who refused to look the other way.
According to authorities, the suspect took off on foot after abandoning his vehicle and attempted to disappear by climbing into a garbage bin. But while police were already combing the area, the sanitation worker stumbled onto the hiding spot and immediately alerted officers.
Dashcam footage later captured the moment the plan fell apart. The suspect burst out of the trash can and ran, only to be chased down by police moments later. The escape attempt lasted seconds. The consequences will last much longer.
Officers took the suspect into custody without further incident, ending a chase that could have turned dangerous if not for quick thinking and cooperation from a working citizen doing his job.
Law enforcement could not help but point out the irony of the situation. In a statement, the department joked that the suspect had earned the nickname “Oscar the Grouch” for his choice of hiding place, noting that he appeared at exactly the wrong place and the wrong time.
