A deeply disturbing promotional video from toilet-accessory company Squatty Potty is making the rounds again online, and Americans are asking how they ever missed the obvious red flags.
The resurfaced ad, which was once praised by corporate media as “quirky” and “edgy,” features children being served rainbow-colored ice cream dispensed from the rear of a cartoon unicorn, imagery critics now say looks far more sinister in hindsight.
The renewed outrage comes as Squatty Potty co-founder Robert Edwards has been hit with federal charges accusing him of receiving and purchasing child sexual abuse material, CSAM, over four years, according to investigators.
A company whose most infamous marketing campaign involved childlike characters, bodily fixation, and grotesque “bathroom humor” aimed at families is now directly linked to allegations of one of the most heinous crimes imaginable.
While Edwards has not been convicted and the case is ongoing, many are questioning why corporate advertisers, Hollywood marketers, and Big Tech platforms aggressively promoted and normalized content that blurred lines involving children, while attacking anyone who raised concerns as “prudes” or “conspiracy theorists.”
