A shocking act of violence unfolded outside an elementary school in Pennsylvania when a driver allegedly punched a school crossing guard in the face and knocked her unconscious after becoming impatient while children crossed the street.
The disturbing incident occurred outside Walnut Street Elementary School in Darby, Pennsylvania, as students who had just stepped off a school bus were being safely guided across the road.
According to police, the crossing guard was doing her routine job of stopping traffic and escorting children across the street when a driver waiting nearby became increasingly frustrated.
Authorities say the man suddenly got out of his vehicle, approached the guard, and struck her in the face with a single punch.
The blow knocked the guard unconscious, leaving her lying on the street in front of stunned witnesses.
The attacker then fled the scene in his car before police arrived.
Police Chief Joseph J. Gabe said investigators believe the man targeted the guard out of anger over having to wait while children crossed the road.
“He may have been upset with having to wait for her to cross children off of the school bus there,” Gabe said.
The assault has shocked the local community, particularly because it occurred at a time when young students were arriving at school.
Crossing guards play a crucial role in ensuring children can safely navigate busy streets during school drop-off hours, often placing themselves directly in traffic to protect students.
Police are now searching for the suspect and urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
Officials have not yet released details about the victim’s condition following the attack.
The investigation remains ongoing.
