A chilling burst of violence on the streets of Chicago has left a man fighting for his life after what police describe as a coordinated ambush involving nearly 40 seconds of continuous gunfire.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the 31-year-old victim was sitting inside a parked vehicle when the situation suddenly turned deadly.
Two cars, described as a light blue sedan and a red sedan, pulled up alongside him in a calculated move that investigators believe was anything but random.
Then came the gunfire.
Occupants from both vehicles allegedly opened fire in a sustained barrage, unleashing a terrifying hail of bullets that shattered the calm and sent shockwaves through the neighborhood.
As the attack intensified, the victim attempted to escape, getting out of his vehicle in a desperate bid to flee.
But he didn’t make it far.
Police say he was struck multiple times as the shooting continued, collapsing under the relentless assault. The sheer duration of the gunfire, nearly 40 seconds, paints a grim picture of the ferocity of the attack.
Emergency responders rushed the man to a nearby hospital, where he is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds. His current condition has not been publicly disclosed.
So far, no arrests have been made.
Authorities have not confirmed a motive, and it remains unclear whether the victim was specifically targeted or caught in a broader conflict. The suspects, described only as “teens,” remain at large.
The brazen nature of the ambush, carried out in broad view and with such sustained violence, is likely to heighten concerns over escalating gun crime in the city.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the search for those responsible intensifies.
