Shocking CCTV footage has captured the heart-stopping moment a heroic healthcare worker in Turkey fought for his life after a piece of food became lodged in his throat, with no one around to help.
Ilyas Yıldır, an emergency medical technician and first-aid trainer based in Osmaniye, southern Turkey, was calmly eating alone at his desk when disaster struck.
In the tense video, the dedicated paramedic can be seen suddenly struggling as the obstruction takes hold. But rather than panic, the quick-thinking professional, who regularly teaches others how to save lives, sprang into action.
Rising from his seat with remarkable composure, Yıldır moved to a sturdy leather chair nearby. He then positioned himself behind it and repeatedly thrust his abdomen against the back of the chair in a desperate but calculated self-administered Heimlich manoeuvre.
Each forceful push was designed to create the pressure needed to dislodge the blockage – a technique he has no doubt demonstrated countless times to trainees.
After several determined attempts, success: the food was expelled, and Yıldır was able to breathe once more. The entire ordeal, captured in crystal-clear detail by the office security camera, unfolded in a matter of seconds.
The footage, which has gone viral across social media, has left viewers stunned by the man's ice-cool response in the face of potential tragedy.
