Ultra-Rare Rainbow Clouds Dazzle Skywatchers In Stunning Viral Video After Rainfall
25 days ago
A breathtaking video capturing a rare display of iridescent clouds has left viewers mesmerized as shimmering rainbow colors lit up the sky following a recent rainstorm.
The stunning phenomenon, sometimes referred to as “rainbow clouds,” occurs when sunlight interacts with tiny water droplets or ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. In this case, the vibrant display appeared shortly after rainfall, when lingering moisture in the air created the perfect conditions for the dazzling effect.
The viral video shows clouds glowing with brilliant shades of pink, green, blue, and gold as sunlight filters through the sky at just the right angle.
Unlike traditional rainbows, iridescent clouds form much closer to the sun and are caused by diffraction, a process where light bends around tiny droplets or particles in the atmosphere. When the droplets are especially small and uniform in size, sunlight separates into vivid pastel colors that can appear as if painted directly onto the clouds.
Meteorologists say the phenomenon is relatively uncommon because it requires a very precise combination of the position of the sun, cloud thickness, and droplet size.
The result can look almost unreal.
In the footage, the clouds appear to shimmer and shift colors as they move across the sky, creating a scene many viewers compared to a painting or special effects from a movie.
