A night out turned deadly in Texas after a disturbance inside a restaurant escalated into a shooting that left one man dead and four others hospitalized.
Police said 27-year-old Mykal Jones was fatally shot early Wednesday morning at Down South CaJJun Eats in Pflugerville, just outside Austin.
Officers with the Austin Police Department responded to the restaurant, located on FM 1825, at around 1.31am following reports of gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found Jones suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2.13am.
Four additional victims were also discovered at the scene and transported to local hospitals.
Authorities said all four are currently in stable condition.
According to police, some victims were transported by Austin-Travis County EMS while others arrived at hospitals on their own.
Investigators said preliminary findings indicate the violence began as an altercation inside the restaurant before spilling out into the parking lot.
Gunfire then erupted both inside and outside the business as panic spread among patrons.
A cellphone video reportedly captured the beginning of the confrontation before the situation turned deadly.
Police said the suspects fled the scene following the shooting.
While officers were still investigating at the restaurant, authorities received another call near East Howard Lane and Harrisglenn Drive at The Bridge at Harris Ridge apartments.
Responding officers later detained individuals investigators believe may be connected to the deadly shooting.
“When officers arrived there, through their investigation, they located suspects that they believed to be the same suspects for this homicide here; those suspects are now detained,” an Austin police officer said during an update at the scene.
Authorities have not yet confirmed how many suspects were taken into custody.
The investigation remains ongoing.
