A brainless tourist is staring down a whopping €200,000 ($225,000) fine after he was caught on video launching a gigantic rock off a cliff into a popular Spanish hiking trail, an insanely reckless stunt that could’ve killed someone below.
The shocking clip, which exploded online after being shared by a Japanese shock-content account, shows a young man in hiking gear standing on the famed Cares Trail in Spain’s breathtaking Picos de Europa National Park. He strains to hoist the hefty boulder, heaves it over the edge, and watches it plummet into the deep gorge. A thunderous crash echoes up moments later.
The trail, which snakes through dramatic canyons and draws around 300,000 hikers a year — part of a park that sees two million visitors annually — has another path at the bottom. One wrong bounce and that rock could’ve turned a family outing into a tragedy.
Spanish authorities, including the Civil Guard, are now investigating the viral video. Under strict environmental protection laws for the national park, disturbing protected areas like this is considered a “very serious offense,” with penalties ranging from about $5,600 up to the eye-watering maximum.
The tourist’s face is blurred in the circulating clip, but with the video racking up millions of views, it probably won’t stay anonymous for long.
